Tyrian is an old DOS shoot 'em up from 1995. In 2004, Tyrian became freeware and an open source port of its engine began not long after.

This recipe installs the engine as well as the free assets to play the game. Music and sound works, but I disabled netplay until I figure out how to get SDL2_net to compile.

Alsooo, if you're wondering why I took a screenshot of the demo, it's because I find it hard to take a nice picture while gaming!
